Freebie: Mr Pud celebrates release of The Back to Basics e.p.

UK garage from Mr Pud - The Back to basics EP

UK Garage comes in many shapes and sizes. 2-step & 4x4 is thin on the ground right now and we always welcome new releases and freebies wherever possible.

The latest UK garage philanthropist to step in is new school UKG producer Mr Pud.

Pud has just released what Hype Music are calling "his first e.p. of 2010 featuring bumpy, chopped up 4x4" - The Back To Basics e.p.

Pud delivers a modern garage records sure to get fans of the golden era of UKG excited.

This release accompanies a mass of tunage the Hype Music camp have pushed onto the market, and their store has fresh music from artists such as Statix, Leon 1 Love, Detox and new boy to the UKG scene 8th Note.

To celebrate his first release in nearly two years (his previous being Custard's First Stand) Mr Pud contacted Slick n Fresh to offer a freebie for download!

We're told to blame his niece for the choice of artist. Who knows; it's always good to get the kids into the sound as early as possible!

New Release: Zinc + Ms Dynamite - Wile Out

Zinc ft Ms Dynamite - Wile Out - Out Now!

It's official (or as good as), Ms Dynamite has re-discovered her roots!

After making us wait years and years for her to link back up with "Booo!" producer Sticky to come up with her underground smash "Bad Gyal" at the back end of 2008, Ms Dynamite now returns with another example of why she's the best at what she does.

This time out, little Ms Dyna-mi-teehee has teamed up with former DnB/Hard break garage producer DJ Zinc to produce a vocal for "Blunt Edge" (taken from the Crack House EP). The track is a simple concept called "Wile Out", telling us to do so. Ms Dynamite does not disappoint on this funky banger.

Wile Out to the video inside and get the all important information on where to cop the track!

New Release - Duncan Powell 'Came Into View' E.P

Duncan Powell returns to L2S Recordings for a second visit, this time with his first full release for the esteemed future garage label. ‘Came Into View’ E.P has been eagerly anticipated by most who follow Mr Powell and L2S, and rumours of his imminent retirement have only seen to it that the anticipation has been intensified.

With that in mind, it’s great to say that this E.P doesn’t fail to deliver. ‘Came Into View’ is a glimpse of what dubstep and R&B could unleash if they ever went and spent a night in a seedy motel together – a light half-step beat, gleaming keys, soulful vocals and a damn right rude bass line that is kept at the forefront of your attention by the copycat lead line. This ones to put on ‘the tape’, if you have such a thing.

‘Hold You’ sees a reversion to more 2-Step surroundings, with signature vocal chops leading the way over an eclectic synth line and solid sub that demands attention. ‘Need You’ again keeps it on the shuffle side of tricks, with a percussive and emotive body encompassing the jumpy bass line. A nice vocal hook further cements the soul into this one, before dipping into quite a dubby middle.

Final track ‘Wombat Night’ bursts into life with a meandering bass and strong melody line, with pitched up vocals added to provide the shine. After delving into a staccato world of shiny synths, it lulls back into the final section to complete a dubstep finish.

All in all, this is a great E.P with perhaps some surprise styling’s in there but non-the-less delivered and executed in astonishing fashion. If Mr Powell is indeed approaching end game, then it will be a sad loss for all of us, especially if this E.P is any indication of current form.

You can keep up with the latest goings on from Duncan Powell over at his Myspace. The E.P is out now on L2S Recordings.

PREVIEW: Subeena - 'Picture'/'Spectrums' 12"

Following up from Subeenas single on Planet Mu late last year, we have this two track 12” due out on Opit Records soon. ‘Picture’ and ‘Spectrums’ offer another peek into the talented Italian’s interesting take on electro styled bass music.

Starting off with a half step vibe before quickly leaping into a 4/4 jive, ‘Picture’ is a tune that’s powered by a lovely analogue bass. Lo-fi pads and melodies help give this a very authentic, dare I say European feel to it, and this is helped along with some nice filter modulations and a driving beat.

‘Spectrums’ is described in the press release as a ‘monastic rave’, and it is easy to see where this bizarre description has come from. Monks with glow sticks and pie-eyed priests are the image of the day for this track, and towards the end of the tune you are pretty much enveloped by the need to repent.

At only 24, there are already signs that Subeena will be around for some time to come. It’s not throwaway music, its had some thinking time behind it, and that will ultimately lead to it catching more and more people’s imagination.

You can keep up with the latest goings on with Subeena over at her Myspace. This E.P is out in the shops on February 15th.

Gravious in the Mix - SnF Guest mix

UK Garage from Gravious

Dubstep and UK garage in Scotland you say? Not the ramblings of a mad man, but in fact a deep fried Mars bar of a treat.

Hailing from Glasgow, Gravious - known on weekdays as Ali - has been quietly going about his business over the last couple of years, gradually building up a solid base of support thanks to some wonderfully deep beats.

Releases on Scuba's Hotflush imprint coupled with a must-see live set have further aided Gravious's cause and 2010 looks nailed on to be even bigger and better for this man.

For that reason we are pleased to present Slick n Fresh's February mix, the second in the series, from Gravious. Put your feet up; kick back & relax, this really is sublime.
